CD Review : The Lemonheads Self-titled Album (2006)
Got myself this CD last Tuesday (3rd day of Syawal) when me and my family pay a visit to our hometown in Miri, bought it at Speedy though with cheap price for only RM10.00. It's a shame to know that this cd ended up in the stock clearance section. As most of the fans of the band knew, it has been a long hiatus (more or less 10 years after) since their last offering called "Car Button Cloth" (released in 1996) and now they return with their self-titled CD which is their 7th studio album.
Ah...Evan Dando still kicking up the best melodic alternative tunes after all these years. Although he has been hibernating in his own cocoon for too long, he still didn't lost the magic. Being the only remaining original member of the band, it's obvious that he composed and produced most of the songs. Consist of some new bandmates, Karl Alvarez (bassist) and Bill Stevenson (drummer and co-songwriter), these guys gives more variant and unique sounds to the band. The album includes 11 songs altogether, all killer no filler in my opinion. There's still some influences taken from bands like Gin Blossoms, REM, Dinosaur Jr , some earliest Matchbox Twenty albums and Goo Goo Dolls.
Even though this album can't repeat the success of their previous albums such as It's a shame about Ray (1992), Come on feel The Lemonheads (1993) and Car Button Cloth (1996) but it still brings the good old alternative tunes that most nineties kids like me very much miss a lot. Nevertheless it still brings good music and inspire most of us (musicians) to make some cool tunes as well...
